Rescuing, like tennis, can be an isolating sport. Volunteers rarely meet each other on a pick up, so we often try to bring the network together. This is our way of turning our one-player sport into a team activity.
That is why we are excited to announce our September volunteer meet up! Join us on Saturday, September 30. In partnership with Keep Norwalk Beautiful, Food Rescue US – Fairfield County volunteers are invited to clean up John J Ryan Park in preparation for the SoNo Farmers’ Market the following day. Clean up kits will be provided, please bring your own gloves. Please email Alexa@foodrescue.us if we can expect you!
Please claim your preferred rescues on the app by logging into https://app.foodrescue.us/rescuer-dashboard/schedule. If you no longer see the rescue you were interested in when you login it means it has already been claimed by another volunteer. For more choice, look for the 6pm evening email with open rescues for the next day or swipe down on the schedule tab to see upcoming rescues.
Need help navigating the app? Here is a link to our rescuer handbook – there is no need to read this before your first rescue but please keep it as reference material for future questions: https://support.foodrescue.us/hc/en-us/categories/1500000285561-Rescuer Or contact Laney@Foodrescue.us with any questions about the app or rescues.
About Food Rescue US: Food Rescue US was founded in Fairfield County in 2011 when our founders, Jeff Schacher and Kevin Mullins, recognized that two growing challenges facing their community and the nation, food insecurity and food waste, could be solved with innovative technology, volunteers, and a direct-transfer model. Together, they founded Community Plates and created a unique model of food rescue that is simple, sustainable, and scalable. The organization quickly received vast support from volunteer rescuers, food donors, and social service agencies, and by 2014, the organization had rescued more than 6 million meals and was serving not only Fairfield County but also Albuquerque and Columbus.
