Friends Author Series: Meet Andrew McCarthy

May 25, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

’80s teen heartthrob and bestselling author Andrew McCarthy discusses his latest book about a transformative journey with his oldest son.

Since his days in Hollywood’s legendary “Brat Pack” to a decade spent as a National Geographic Traveler editor, Andrew McCarthy has lived a fascinating and well-traveled life.

The ’80s teen heartthrob, who starred in such iconic films as Pretty in Pink, St. Elmo’s Fire and Less Than Zero, will visit the Ferguson Library in Stamford, CT., on May 25 to discuss his latest memoir, Walking with Sam.: A Father, Son, And Five Hundred Miles Walking Across Spain.

In his new book, McCarthy reflects on his decision to take his son Sam on a 5-week, 500-mile trek across Spain’s unforgiving Camino de Santiago as his oldest child was preparing to leave the family nest. Their journey forged a more candid and intimate father/son bond as the pair discussed subjects like divorce, the trauma of school, McCarthy’s difficult relationship with his own father, Flaming Hot Cheetos and fame.

Presented by the Friends of the Ferguson Library.

Tickets are $15 for Friends members and $25 for non-members. Non-member purchasers receive 2023 Friends membership in this special promotion. Seating is limited. Registration is required.
