Founded in 2003, the Toronto-based Classic Albums Live is a concert series in which musicians perform a classic rock album in its entirety live on stage – note for note, cut for cut. With 100+ shows a year across North America, Classic Albums Live has seen massive success. Alan Cross, the popular Canadian radio broadcaster and music historian, says, “What CAL provides is the next best thing to the original artist doing the song.”
This show celebrates one of the greatest albums of all time, Prince’s 1984 release, Purple Rain. This album solidified Prince’s place in 80’s pop music. In 2010, Purple Rain was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 2012, the album was added to the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically important.” Purple Rain birthed some of the most legendary and classic songs of all time including “When Doves Cry,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” and of course the titular “Purple Rain.”
