Stamp Out Hunger: The Easiest Way to Give Back in the 203 Is Right at Your Mailbox

No tickets, no lines, no planning—just you, a bag of food, and your mailbox.

The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, led by the National Association of Letter Carriers, is going down Saturday, May 9, 2026—and it’s one of the simplest, most impactful ways to give back in your own neighborhood.

How It Works (Couldn’t Be Easier)

This is as low-effort, high-impact as it gets:
    •    Grab a bag
    •    Fill it with non-perishable food (canned goods, pasta, cereal, etc.)
    •    Leave it by your mailbox before mail delivery

Your letter carrier picks it up and delivers it straight to Operation Hope in Fairfield. That’s it.

No drop-off. No extra trip. Just helping your community without even leaving your house.

Why It Hits Close to Home

What makes this different from other drives? Everything collected stays local—meaning your donation directly supports food pantries and families right here in your area.

And the need is real. Millions of Americans face food insecurity, and spring is actually a tough time for food banks after holiday donations run dry.

A Nationwide Effort With Local Impact

Started back in 1993, Stamp Out Hunger has grown into the largest one-day food drive in the country, collecting over a billion pounds of food over the years.

But what makes it powerful isn’t just the scale—it’s the fact that it happens in neighborhoods just like yours. Every street, every mailbox, every bag adds up.

The 203local Take

This is one of those rare moments where doing something small actually makes a huge difference.

So while you’re running errands, cleaning out the pantry, or just scrolling for weekend plans—take two minutes, fill a bag, and leave it out.

Because in the 203, showing up for your community can be as simple as checking your mail.

Operation Hope is a Fairfield-based nonprofit dedicated to ending hunger and homelessness in the local community by meeting immediate needs while creating long-term solutions. Through programs like its food pantry and community kitchen—which together provide hundreds of thousands of meals each year—as well as supportive housing, outreach services, and case management, the organization helps individuals and families move from crisis to stability. Since 1985, Operation Hope has focused on not just providing food and shelter, but also empowering people with the resources and support needed to achieve self-sufficiency and lasting change.
