The Shebeen in Black Rock is a shortcut to Ireland, where a “shebeen” was once an illicit drinking establishment (usually a converted barn).  Similar to what we had here in America, a speakeasy where, once inside, you could find good conversation on sports, politics, local events, while enjoying food and drink. Bagpipers, Irish dancers, corned beef sandwiches and plenty of Guinness are on tap.

Co-owners Michael Brennan and Kieran McAlinden opened The Shebeen in 2014 a few years before they closed their Oxford location.  Brennan’s Shebeen, an Irish style pub was inside the historic Oxford House and closed after two years.  The Oxford House was built by Daniel and Job Candee as a hotel on the then-newly constructed Oxford Turnpike, now Route 67  However, they created much excitement when they landed in Black Rock.  Black Rock is known to have many Irish style establishments and The Shebeen fit right in!
