Summer Outdoor Shopping Days: Downtown Westport
WESTPORT, CT: The Westport Downtown Association presents “Summer Outdoor Shopping Days” taking place Saturday, June 18th, 2022 and Saturday, August 20th, 2022. The Town of Westport has approved the closing of streets to traffic and parking for this outdoor shopping event on Main St from Post Road to Elm St. Brooks Corner will also be closed for vendors – creating more space for patrons and merchandise. Merchants on upper Main St, Elm St and Church Lane will also be participating.
The Westport Downtown Association Shopping Day is purposefully not called a “Sidewalk Sale” so businesses can decide how to best use the event based on their current merchandising needs. They may choose to offer products with deep discounts or to showcase current, higher margin products. All types of merchants in the downtown area have been encouraged to participate in this outdoor shopping day.
The following streets will be closed:
- Main Street from Post Road to Elm St.
- Brooks Corner Lot will be closed for vendors
- Church Lane (which is already closed in a current program).
In the Fall of 2020, the Westport Downtown Association saw a new opportunity to promote downtown shopping by producing a pilot series of themed block closure days. One of the most popular was the retail focused shopping day, where all merchants were encouraged to bring fixtures out to the sidewalk, nearby businesses could bring retail tables to the heart of downtown and Main Street was closed to traffic for free pedestrian access, more cafe tables, strollers, music, art, kiddie bikes & scooters and lots of pups were brought along too.
The atmosphere was relaxed and fun – with more space and time to walk around, and easy to stop by the offerings of merchants whose thresholds may not normally be crossed. As Shop Local campaigns gain momentum in towns all around the country, here in Westport the Westport Downtown Association wants to give the community great reasons to plan Saturday trips downtown to shop, dine & drink, hang with friends, welcoming and safely outdoors on glorious summer days!
The Summer Outdoor Shopping Days in Downtown Westport would not be possible without the support of Humming Homes, Anderson Renewal, David Adam Realty, Manna Toast, thingsilove203, Equals Human, Desert Fox, Chakarr Jewelry, Hanesie Clothing, and Yup Pup in addition to Brooks, Torrey & Scott, Inc.
