DRYYP Sauna, a mobile wood-fired sauna and cold plunge experience, is introducing Connecticut residents to the restorative power of the Nordic “hot and cold” reset. Founded by husband-and-wife team Mike and Meg Garrow, DRYYP hosts pop-up wellness experiences designed to help guests move, recover, and reconnect through the ancient practice of contrast therapy – a ritual deeply rooted in Nordic culture.
The Nordic cycle (alternating between heat, cold, and rest) has been practiced for centuries across Finland, Sweden, and other Nordic countries, where sauna culture is a cornerstone of daily life and community. Today, this timeless ritual is experiencing a modern revival across Europe, Canada, and the United States, as more people rediscover the mental and physical benefits of hot and cold exposure.
The idea for DRYYP began in Dublin, Ireland, where co-founder Mike Garrow played professional basketball and discovered the transformative power of sauna culture that has surged there in recent years. What started as a post-practice recovery ritual quickly evolved into something deeper – a place for community, calm, and conversation between teammates and strangers. After returning home to Connecticut, Mike and Meg were inspired by Ireland’s growing sauna scene and saw an opportunity to bring that experience stateside.“We wanted to create a space where people could slow down, unplug, and socialize.” says co-founder Meg Garrow.
Each DRYYP session follows the traditional Nordic cycle:
- Heat: 10–15 minutes in a wood-fired sauna
- Cold: 45 seconds to 3 minutes in an invigorating plunge
- Rest: A moment to rehydrate, breathe, and reconnect
This sequence is typically repeated two to three times, offering benefits including improved circulation, faster recovery, reduced stress, better sleep, and enhanced mental clarity.
In addition to its physical benefits, DRYYP is designed to foster community. Whether hosted at coffee shops, breweries, local parks, or private gatherings, each event creates space for conversation and connection.
“We love watching people strike up conversations, laugh between plunges, and walk away feeling refreshed,” adds Mike.
Since launching in Summer 2025, DRYYP has partnered with venues like the Scandinavian Club of Fairfield, Berlinetta Brewing, Sound Coffee, and CITA Park in downtown New Haven.
Upcoming events include Sauna & Coffee at Ridgefield Vintage & Coffee on Saturday, October 12th, featuring 90-minute guided sessions and complimentary coffee after your session.
