The Porch at Christie’s operates solely on a donation basis and through their shop. The Porch employs an all abilities staff while the Sweet P Bakery trains and employs adults with developmental and learning disabilities. They bake all of the delicious baked goods sold at The Porch, it’s a fantastic opportunity to learn and grow.

HOW WILL YOUR DONATION HELP?
To support these initiatives and fulfill their goals, they are launching a GoFundMe campaign. They believe that with your generous contribution, you can make a tangible difference in the lives of adults with disabilities. Here’s how your donation will be utilized:
-Expanding Sweet P Bakery: Your donation will allow them to triple the size of Sweet P Bakery’s commercial kitchen. This expansion will facilitate their wholesale operations and enable direct-to-consumer shipping. They will also utilize these funds to create a revamped website that can handle online orders, shipping, and nationwide marketing of our products.
-Increasing Employment Opportunities: With your support, they will be able to hire all the upcoming class of baking students graduating in December. This will double their current staff of 6 Sweet P bakers to 12, creating more job opportunities.
-Diversifying Roles: Your donation will also assist in creating additional non-baking positions at Sweet P Bakery, such as production, packaging, and shipping roles. This will broaden the spectrum of employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
-Sustaining The Porch: As a community treasure, The Porch heavily relies on fundraising and grants to balance its operating expenses. Your contribution will help ensure that The Porch continues to thrive and provide inclusive employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
-Inclusive Employment: Your donation will enable them to hire more employees with all abilities at The Porch, as we are consistently seeking to provide inclusive employment opportunities.
-Spreading Kindness: Lastly, your support will allow them to continue modeling kindness in their community, particularly during these challenging times. One job shift a week can truly change a person’s life, and they invite you to be a part of this transformative change.

In the coming weeks, they will have more ways for you to support their mission through volunteer opportunities and events. They have recently formed a new board of directors and are excited about the endless possibilities that lie ahead.

As the new owners, they want to keep all that is wonderful while putting their own special touches on the space and making sure this spot is around for the next generation to enjoy.
As long-time Westport residents, they have always appreciated the history of the original community store and knew they needed to pay it homage. They are honored to now be the owners of The Porch at Christie’s. Their mission at The Porch is Food-Community-Purpose. They want to continue what Christie’s started and become a place for the community to gather and enjoy a good meal. And their purpose is to include people of all abilities on our staff so that The Porch is truly for all to enjoy. They want to become a place to welcome neighbors and people visiting Westport for the first time, a place for builders, contractors, and landscapers passing by on Cross Highway, and a place for students from all of the area schools to meet up. They can’t wait to welcome you to The Porch.
